Autiello, at a council meeting Tuesday, Feb. 5, planned to request an investment in new outdoor exer- cise equipment at the park on the Wenscott Reservoir. He told The Breeze prior to the meeting that a couple of residents have approached him about the possibility of adding the equipment. "I thought it was a pretty cool idea," he said. "As an organiza- tion, we are pleased to learn the North Providence Police Office of Professional Standards has received only 12 complaints regarding allegations of officer-perceived misconduct," said Tikoian in announcing the report. "(Though) the goal is to receive zero complaints, this number is extremely small considering that our officers have had 43,062 documented calls for service." "I'm happy, this is the final piece of the puzzle for the professional future of our department," said Mayor Charles Lombardi, listing other "pieces" already in place as the addition of new department leaders and ongoing construction of a new public safety complex. "Both sides put taxpayers first," said Lt. Tom Jones, freshman presi- dent of the local FOP. This contract gives police the wages and benefits they need and makes the department competitive with surrounding towns in recruiting and retaining great offi- cers, he said.
