SMITHFIELD – New ownership is in the works for the former Benny's distribution center, 340 Waterman Ave., where the sale of the historic Esmond Mills is pending, according to listing agent Thomas Sweeney. Sweeney said the sale of the 540,272-square-foot building is in the beginning stages, and he is not offering additional details about the new owner or its plans for the mill complex. The Bromberg family didn't respond to questions submitted through an attorney about the sale of their property, which is listed as Sale pending at former Benny's headquarters By JACQUELYN MOOREHEAD Valley Breeze Staff Writer jackie@valleybreeze.com being owned by Barmal Realty Corp. in the town's database. Though the meaning is disputed, Leach said the hammers are actu- ally gavels representing the govern- ments from three villages, Esmond, Georgiaville and Greenville, coming together to form Smithfield. Coincidentally, Leach said a historic home in each village will receive the first three plaques for the program. "That's our theme to kick off the program. I thought it was way too clever to ignore," Leach said. Last Thursday, Jan. 10, the Wright- Waterman House in Greenville was the first home to receive a his- toric marker plaque. Leach, Vice Chairwoman Katie Law, Town Council President Suzy Alba and Councilor Maxine Cavanagh joined the homeowner for the event. Next, the commission will install plaques on the Ephraim Sweet House Home of the Apple King first among Smithfield's historic marked houses By JACQUELYN MOOREHEAD Valley Breeze and Observer Staff Writer jackie@valleybreeze.com 'There are artifacts in the mill that I don't want to be put in the dumpster. Photos and other items are on the walls. I hope they can be saved. I don't know the future of the mill, but I guess we will find out soon.'
