THE VALLEY BREEZE & OBSERVER | JANUARY 9-15, 2019 2018 PHOTOS OF THE YEAR 11 BREEZE PHOTOS BY CHARLES LAWRENCE This disturbing photo was taken in North Providence during a drill in which an active shooter was sup- posed to be hiding in a school. The police entered the building with smoke grenades and drawn guns. It was difficult to see and photograph them. With police were members of the Fire Department treating "victims" and getting them to safety. I don't recall any- thing like this when I was growing up. This photo was taken at the Dragon Boat races in Pawtucket in September. It was one of the first times I used a new lens I bought, and it really showed how hard the rowers work. I thought it important to get a good photo of the woman beating the drum to demonstrate the efforts they all made.
