CUMBERLAND LINCOLN EDITION | VALLEY BREEZE | DECEMBER 6-12, 2018 CUMBERLAND 9 Happy Baskets again teams up with Toys for Tots CUMBERLAND – The Cumberland Happy Basket Program is again teaming up with Toys for Tots, sponsored by the U.S. Marine Corps Foundation, to provide more than 300 Cumberland children with gifts during the holiday season. The Happy Basket Program helps ensure that families in need in Cumberland receive food baskets and toys over the holidays. The program delivered its first basket in 1992 and has distributed close to 15,000 baskets over the past 27 years. "It's a testament to the kindness shown by so many others that Happy Baskets has been able to deliver so many baskets of food and so many toys to those in need," said John Johnson, director of Happy Baskets. Local Toys for Tots drop-off points are: Navigant Bank, Dean Warehouse Services, Cumberland Physical Therapy, Cumberland Fire Departments, Cumberland Public Library, Adeline's Speakeasy, Cumberland Town Hall, Uno Pizzeria, KC's Classic Burger Bar, Johnson & Wales University and the International Laborers Union in Providence. A special thank you goes out to the Arnold Mills Boy Scout and Cub Scout troops for con- ducting their annual toy drive, states a release. "Toys for Tots, led by USMC retired Sgt. Dave McLaughlin, has become the driving force for our toy distribution," said Johnson. "Sgt. McLaughlin is responsible for many smiles this holiday season." New gifts, toys and clothes are needed for children ages infant to 13 years old. All donations should be unwrapped to aid vol- unteers in distribution. Any mon- etary donations should be made to the Cumberland Happy Basket Program and sent to P.O. Box 7611, Cumberland, RI 02864. Anyone wishing to volunteer a few hours of time in sorting dona- tions, wrapping gifts and assembling baskets, or anyone wishing to adopt a child or children in regards to toy donations, is asked to call Johnson at 401-487-1282 or email hbpro- . Baskets for the Christmas giveaway will be put together Dec. 13 starting at 6 p.m. at the Cumberland Senior Center.
