2 NORTH PROVIDENCE DECEMBER 5-11, 2018 | VALLEY BREEZE | NORTH PROVIDENCE EDITION Community 'Roll Call' Forum is Dec. 13 NORTH PROVIDENCE – The fourth installment of the North Providence Police Department Community "Roll Call" Forum to cultivate relationships with the community is planned for Thursday, Dec. 13, starting at noon at Lancellotta's Restaurant, 1113 Charles St. With the support of Mayor Charles Lombardi, the North Providence Police Department con- tinues with this community outreach initiative. The forums were devel- oped to create positive dialogue with residents, business owners, youth organizations, senior citizens, religious leaders and police. The quarterly forums provide the com- munity a briefing on department operations and services, and facili- tates discussions with participants to help police better understand the needs of the community. "It is our belief this type of com- munity engagement addresses con- cerns before they become problems, thereby fostering trust, confidence and mutual respect between the community and its police depart- ment," states a press release. Representing the North Providence Police Department at this forum will be Chief David Tikoian and Lt. Michel Tavarozzi of the Community Policing Unit. Police kick off 2018 toy drive NORTH PROVIDENCE – Local police have started the annual North Providence Toy Drive, with items collected from now through Dec. 17 to be donated to children in local schools. School Resource Officer Jay Burlingame and Lt. Mike Tavarozzi are heading up the drive, which Tavarozzi described as an effort to bring officers and the community together. Christmas is supposed to be a fun and happy time full of posi- tive memories, he said, and this col- lection and distribution effort helps make it that for numerous town children. "We want to help create memories that last a lifetime," he said. At 9 a.m. on Dec. 17, officers will pick up items collected at four col- lection box locations, the North Providence Town Hall, North Providence Police Department, Mancini Senior Center and the North Providence Library, and will then begin distributing the toys to schools. Principals will identify students in need of the toys and will take care of making sure they get into the right hands. Police are also seeking help from various businesses. Anyone with questions should contact Tavarozzi at 401-231-4522, ext. 111. Local police are also taking part in the separate Kids, Cops and Christmas program with other state and local agencies.
