Try one of these easy, do-it-yourself projects Candles While homemade candles require some manual labor, making them can be a great alternative to spending $20-$30 on a six ounce candle for that hard-to-buy-for relative. Among the supplies needed: soy wax, a package of large candlewicks, a bottle of essential oil for fra- grance and a double boiler to melt the wax. You can reuse old candle containers, mason jars or any other glass or cement con- tainer. A thermometer is recom- mended as well. Steps: 1. Set up a double boiler and heat wax to 180 degrees to melt. 2. Remove wax from the heat and add fragrance oil. Cool to 125 degrees. 3. Pour wax into container(s), then drop in the wick at center. To keep the wick at center, wrap it around a pencil or chopstick and lay across the top of the jar. 4.
