(BREEZE PHOTO BY ETHAN SHOREY) LINCOLN – After Joseph DiMase's mother died in New York in 1901, he and his father moved back to Italy. In 1906, his father also died, leaving an orphaned son. In 1910, at age 11, Joseph moved back to the U.S. to live with his uncle, settling on Federal Hill in Providence. Despite those early losses, Joseph DiMase would persevere and flourish, getting married to Mary and starting a family in 1930, working his way up to become a foreman at Lorgnettes Inc., making frames for spyglasses, and turning a love of woodworking into a flourishing hobby. "He made all kinds of stuff," says Richard DiMase, Joseph's son. "He was very handy."
