SMITHFIELD SCITUATE FOSTER GLOCESTER | VALLEY BREEZE & OBSERVER | NOVEMBER 29-DECEMBER 5, 2018 NORTH COUNTY 5 ISO New England receives approval to cancel Invenergy contract BURRILLVILLE – The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission last week approved a request by ISO New England, the regional grid operator, to cancel a capacity supply obligation contract with the Clear River Energy Center, the power plant proposed by energy company Invenergy off Wallum Lake Road. The decision, issued on Nov. 19, was seen as a win by power plant opponents, who argued the grid operator's decision to cancel the contract indicates the energy prom- ised by the company is no longer needed in the region. ISO New England had initially requested permission to cancel the contract in September due to Invenergy's fail- ure to meet "critical path schedule milestones" in the building of the proposed plant. The contract, first awarded in 2016, was scheduled to take effect on June 1, 2019. Hearings for the proposed plant are now expected to continue through the months of December and January, with a decision expect- ed in mid-spring.
