6 THE VALLEY NOVEMBER 8-14, 2018 | VALLEY BREEZE | NORTH SMITHFIELD BLACKSTONE WOONSOCKET EDITION The 2018 Woonsocket Adopt-A-Family season is underway WOONSOCKET – The 2018 Woonsocket Adopt-A-Family season has begun. For over 35 years, this pro- gram has anonymously matched fami- lies of needy children in Woonsocket with donor families throughout Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts who are willing to provide a complete Christmas for each child they "adopt." Each year, this 100-percent volun- teer program typically assists more than 1,900 children from nearly 1,000 families in Woonsocket. It is not affili- ated with any other similarly-named organization, local or national, and receives no government funding. "We are receiving applications at a pretty brisk rate," reports Board President Jen Mojzak, "so we are in need of donors and also volunteers for Distribution Week." Prospective donors should visit www.woonsocketadoptafamily.org and click on the "Donor" tab to sign up online. Once a match is made, the donor will receive each child's wish list along with further instructions for preparing and delivering the gifts. Monetary donations are also accepted and may be sent through the website or by mail to AAF, PO Box 7665, Cumberland, RI 02864. Volunteers must be at least 14 years old, and the ability to speak Spanish is a plus. This year's Distribution Week will be held Dec. 10-14, at the Elks Lodge, 380 Social St., Woonsocket. Prospective volunteers or group leaders (coaches, scout leaders, etc.) should visit www.woonsocket- adoptafamily.org and click on the "Volunteers" tab for instructions. Recipients may pick up an applica- tion form and instructions for comple- tion at Community Care Alliance, 55 Main St. or 245 Main St., prior to attending an application session. Completed forms are accepted at St. James Episcopal Church Atrium, 24 Hamlet Ave., through Nov. 14, at the following times only: Mondays 4:30- 7 p.m.; Tuesdays 10 a.m.-noon; and Wednesdays 1-3 p.m. There is no ses- sion on Veteran's Day, Nov. 12. For any questions, contact Woonsocket Adopt-A-Family by email to woonsocketadoptafamily@gmail. com or leave a message at 401-766- 2291 and someone will get back to you. Do not call the Elks Lodge; they are not affiliated with this program and will not be able to provide any information.
