Boxes were to be sent to the R.I. Commmunity Food Bank for dis- tribution both in Providence and at local food banks. OCYL to host 'Open STEAMshops' Nov. 17, Dec. 15 CUMBERLAND – In the three-hour Open STEAMshop on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 9 a.m. to noon and again on Saturday, Dec. 15, students choose from numer- ous stations that empower them to solve problems, ask questions, and think out-of-the-box while tinker- ing, creating and innovating. The STEAMshop @ OCYL is a place where imagination is ignited, taking risks is valued, and persever- ance and resourcefulness are devel- oped. A variety of materials, tools, and team "quick challenges" are available to inspire and tap into the innovator and artist within. A sampling of stations includes, bottle science, ceramics, electric- ity, hydraulics, Makedo™, Makey Makey®, mixology, PVC builds, textiles, upcycled art, woodwork- ing, Strawbees®, and much more. Students in grades 3-8 are wel- come to register online now for Nov. 17, and may attend for 1-3 hours between 9 a.m. and noon. Registration for Dec. 15 begins on Monday, Nov. 19. Cost is $10 for Cumberland residents and $15 for non-residents. No financial assistance is avail- able. Registration ahead of time is not required however it is encour- aged as capacity is limited and pro- gram often fills.
