PAWTUCKET – Rhode Island's musicians are often so focused on stressful careers that pay little that they forget to take care of themselves. Add in the industry hazards of drug and alcohol addiction and unhealthy lifestyles, and it can be a recipe for disaster, say those behind the Feeling Alright Health Fair & Unity Concert, planned for Sunday, Oct. 21. The Tune In & Tune Up Rhode Island Musicians Health Awareness Program, in conjunction with the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame, presents the event at the Hope Artiste Village, 999 Main St. in the R.I. Music Hall of Fame museum and at The Met. The Health & Wellness Fair is free and takes place from noon to 4 p.m. Tickets for the 2 to 7 p.m. Unity Concert are $15 in advance and $20 day of show. Tickets can be purchased at www.themetri. com . Proceeds from the event will go toward continuing initiatives of the Tune In & Tune Up Rhode Island Musicians Health Awareness Program. There will be free valet parking from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., courtesy of Bullard Abrasives. The idea for the event was born out of aR.I. Music Hall of Fame commit- tee tossing around the idea of how to help musicians who are often over- whelmed by the prospects of securing health insurance or going to the doc- tor. Those in the music industry "hold repeated benefit after benefit for musician friends who have fallen sick and, in some cases, become very very ill," said Gusetti. Those musicians are often self-employed people without health insurance who don't really take care of themselves. The chosen lifestyle they lead is "fraught with problems," including staying up late, making unhealthy food choices, and giving into the temptation of alcohol, cigarettes and drugs. With the rise of the opioid epi- demic, committee members felt even more of a sense of urgency in doing something to help their musician friends, said Gusetti. Musicians are far 8 HEALTH / ENTERTAINMENT OCTOBER 11-17, 2018 | VALLEY BREEZE | CUMBERLAND LINCOLN EDITION Music community 'Feeling Alright' as it takes care of its own Free health fair, All-Star concert planned for Oct. 21 By ETHAN SHOREY Valley Breeze Managing Editor See HEALTH, Page 30 Lunch Buffet Served 7 dayS a Week Signature Biryani, specialities in Mild and Tandoor Food 1800 Mendon Road • Cumberland • Rhode Island • 02864 401-475-3379 • Monday - Thursday Lunch Buffet $2 Off With this coupon.
