16 THE VALLEY OCTOBER 11-17, 2018 | VALLEY BREEZE | CUMBERLAND LINCOLN EDITION Gorbea reminds voters to send in mail ballot applications PROVIDENCE – Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea is reminding eli- gible voters looking to vote by mail in the Nov. 6 general election that they have until Oct. 16 to file their mail ballot application. New and of note this year, vot- ers casting their ballot by mail will not have to pay for the postage on their mail ballots thanks to funding allocated in this year's budget by Gorbea "Voters who are unable to head to the polls this November still have options for making their voices heard," Gorbea said. "Voting by mail is an easy way for eligible vot- ers to cast a ballot in their local election. And with postage-paid mail ballots, voting by mail comes at no cost to them." Voters must fill out a mail ballot application and return it to their local board of canvassers by Oct. 16. The application is available for vot- ers to download at or by calling their local board of canvass- ers. Completed mail ballots must be received by the State Board of Elections by 8 p.m. on Nov. 6. If an eligible voter misses the mail ballot application deadline, they can still vote by emergency mail ballot at their local board of canvassers until 4 p.m. on Nov. 5. The Rhode Island Board of Elections must receive completed emergency mail ballots by 8 p.m. on Nov. 6.
